Book Marketing - Do You Have What It Takes?

I love when writers get excited about becoming published authors! They have such high expectations for their book, and that’s a good thing. However, you must put in the work to get your book to become a bestseller. Even if you are published by a big publishing company, you must do some marketing yourself.

My company, Get It Write Publishing Company, offers some marketing services in our packages, but I still urge my clients to do as much marketing as they can.

Get all over social media! Facebook (create an author page), Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Alignable, etc., just to name a few! And don’t just post about your book(s). Your followers will get bored. Readers want to know their favorite authors. They want to know who you arenot just see book marketing every day. Do fun posts like writing humor, reading humor, and interactive posts (get all of this on Pinterest!). Post a picture of you reading, the book you’re reading, or you on vacation. Make it personable!

On Facebook, there are many author groups. Join them! Post about your book; interact with other authors. Join some groups on marketing as well. Ask for reviews. Reviews are SO IMPORTANT! Read THIS article about the importance of book reviews.

I highly suggest doing a free eBook promo every once in a while, especially on certain "national days" that is along the same subject of your book. For example, if you wrote a book about animals, do a free eBook promo for three days during "National Pet Month" or something along those lines. Write about cancer? Do a promo during cancer awareness month. You get the idea.

Contact your local Barnes and Noble and any other local bookstore or store that may be interested in purchasing your book to sell (this is for IngramSpark publishers). Please note that not all B&N stores will carry your book. Most B&N stores support their local authors; some don't.

Donate a copy of your book to your local library. Get your name out there. Attend book signing events. Make business cards and fun bookmarks!

It's ok to hire someone to help out (Fiverr is a great resource!) with marketing graphics, etc. And remember, Google is amazing for finding out anything you need to know about anything!

These are only a few tips/ideas and some encouragement about book marketing. Now, get out there and market your book!
